The Most Perfect Family
I think we all remember the anticipation of Tate’s arrival. The day he was born is still so clear to me. First, I remember being so angry that they postponed Brandi’s induction by a day. I wanted to call the hospital and tell them to make someone else wait because my sister had had the longest hardest pregnancy of anyone and she deserved to meet her sweet baby that day. And her sweet husband had endured it all too and deserved the same. Knowing that likely wouldn’t make any difference we all waited just one more day to meet our buddy Tate. October 18th, 2011, TJ and I went to grab dinner at Costa Vida. Brandi and Travis had been at the hospital all day and while we were eating I got the text that Tate was coming! I couldn’t eat anything else I was so excited!! I made TJ rush and we drove straight to St. Mark’s. We walked by the nurses desk and told them who we were there for and they said,’ Oh, he’s already here!’ I couldn’t believe it. Tate was finally here! The nurse didn’t seem to act like anything was wrong or concerning about the baby and that brought me relief. I remember just being so happy to know that my sister was in that delivery room with her baby. Tate was here!
A little later, Trav walked in to the waiting room with a great big smile on his face to get Lexi and Hunter so they could be the first ones to meet their baby brother. I should have known by how big his smile was that he was the man of the hour and had just delivered his son with his own hands. 🙂 Just a few minutes later they let us go in to meet Tate. There was the most special feeling in that room. Brandi was there holding her brand new baby boy and she was so happy! From the minute he was born, Brandi looked at Tate in a way she doesn’t look at anyone else. I saw that same look on Brandi’s face thousands and thousands of times throughout Tate’s life.?We all got to hold Tate in that delivery room and share our excitement with Brandi and Travis. I remember looking specifically at his little nub and thinking how absolutely adorable it was. Tate was perfect!
After each of us held him Tate went right back to his mommy. We all stood around looking at this new family of 5. And they were perfect! The perfect mommy and daddy, the perfect big sister and brother and the perfect baby brother. A couple of us snatched a picture of your cute family. It?s no doubt to any of us why Tate came to your family. He knew he not only needed, but wanted, each one of you. And you each needed and wanted him. I have this picture to remind me of this memory, but it?s still a clear picture in my mind. The Jacobson family will always be a family I strive to be more like. And sis, you?ve always been a mother that I have watched in amazement. Not just with Tate, but with all your sweet kiddos. You are an example to each one of us. And you will always be Tate?s sweet mommy. Happy Mother?s Day! I love you and your entire family!
